About the HSRJ
Health Systems & Reform (HS&R) is the first peer-reviewed Open Access journal dedicated to bridging research, theory and analysis with knowledge and experience in health systems and reform. Professor Reich is the founding Editor-in-Chief for the journal, which published its first issue in 2015.
Aging, chronic diseases, persistent and emerging infectious diseases, and new healthcare technologies are among the mounting challenges that require innovative and cost-effective approaches to healthcare delivery and reform. HS&R fills the gap in international journals by catalyzing cross-national knowledge transfer and translation in health systems and reform.
HS&R is currently listed in PubMed, Clarivate Analytics Social Science Citation Index®, Journal Citation Reports/Social Sciences Edition, and Current Contents®/Social and Behavioral Sciences. The journal received its first impact factor of 1.980 in 2019.
HS&R is the journal of reference in health systems and reform. HS&R’s mission is to create a global platform for sharing cutting-edge knowledge, skills, and lessons in health systems and reform, for leaders, professionals, and students. Most importantly, HS&R contributes to strengthening health systems and to improving care delivered.
The journal is committed to publishing articles that examine the processes and the consequences of health reform efforts around the world. Research articles and commentaries in HS&R address critical topics in health systems financing, health systems management, public health, health policy, and health economics. HS&R includes commentaries from healthcare leaders, such as ministers of health, CEOs of healthcare companies, directors of international agencies, and heads of nonprofit and nongovernmental institutions. These leaders share their experiences, concerns, and policy lessons with a global audience.
Special issues of HS&R highlight neglected but critically important issues in health systems, such as common goods in health, women leaders, and political economy for health financing reform. They also focus on countries or regions rarely featured in other journals in the field: Nigeria, Mexico, Middle East, and Northern Africa.
In September 2019, Health Systems & Reform became a fully Open Access journal. All accepted articles will be available for anyone to read anywhere, at any time immediately on publication, following the payment of an article publishing charge (APC). Submit your articles
We encourage academics, practitioners, and leaders in public health and other relevant health system stakeholders, especially from low-resource settings, to submit their articles to Health Systems & Reform. We welcome contributions from first-time lead authors located at institutions in low- and middle-income countries. Prospective authors are encouraged to contact the Editor-in-Chief with proposals and ideas for articles.
